Interns wholly manage development and deployment of their project. You can hand off your work at the end of the summer or decide to build your own company to share your work with other universities and nonprofits.
University of Illinois Foundation’s tech interns build solutions to unsolved industry problems and pain points. These new technology or analytical products can support any part of the advancement enterprise, from services to the front line to the donor and back again.
A challenge. 12 weeks. Training.
Building. Community. Ownership.
Any rising sophomore, junior, or senior can participate in a Zoom information session to learn more about innovation in advancement, the internship program, and potential projects for the upcoming summer tech internship. All information sessions will be posted on Handshake.
First-round 30-minute zoom interviews will be scheduled in two waves if necessary (fall and spring).
In-person (where possible) final interview teams may include advancement and technology executives, tech internship alumni, and other partners critical to the internship.
Foundation staff will conduct reference checks for finalists, and competitive offers will be made to top candidates.
Project decisions and orientation will be held in the spring semester.
The internship begins one week after the close of the Spring Semester.
Idea onboarding, partner introductions, advancement 101 training, information security and privacy training, and project management training all occur in week 1.
Tech interns begin working on their projects by week 2.
Tech interns spend nine weeks developing their new technologies, meeting with advisors and partners, developing a narrative about the products, documenting business and tech processes, and incorporating feedback.
In week 11, interns present their products to advisors, partners, the UI advancement community, and other industry influencers and begin transitioning/training the UI team on how to incorporate the product into day-to-day operations.
Final wrap-up of the project and internship happens in week 12, with the internship closing one week before the start of the Fall Semester.
